Portrait © Nicolas Moulard

My photography started to take shape in Brussel’s nightclubs in 1995, with the body of work Clubbers. It brought and made clear to me what would be the main directions and obsessions that would nurture my personal photo projects mostly, until today. Portrait as a possible core of a documentary. The Night and the Youth as two great inspiration sources. And at the same period (1992 > 1995), I travelled during three consecutive years to India (in summer time). I applied, though I didn’t know it at the time, for an irresistible and impulsive drawing power towards this country, which is still very alive today. India represents the second most important body of work on my photographic route. Since the Tunisian revolution in 2011 I started to work on the Arab world.
The documentary value is what lies beneath most of my works. Not fond of hot news, I like to take the time to go around an issue. Photojournalistic, but also a sociological, sometimes a poetic approach prevails. Whatever the mental process, I always want to inform on our world.
